Self Assessment

In this page, I will be talking about the assignment I have done in this semester. The hard part the easiest part and how my assignment connects with my life.

            My first assignment is writing a critical response essay on the text“How to Tame A Wild Tongue ”by Gloria Anzaldua and the text “Two ways to Belong to America” by Bharati Mukherjee. This text has a lot of links with my life. The character in the text and I are coming to the United States from another country. They have the same problems as me with the new language and how to integrate into this new place. In the text Anzaldua choose to never forget her cultural identity but Mukherjee chooses to adapt in the new culture. For me, I choose to be both I want to adapt to the new culture so I can make more friend but I still want to stay with my own culture too because that where I started from.

             In this assignment, the most difficult thing is to thinking critically because professor Aisha Sidibe was the first person who teaches me thinking stuff critically. In my life, I always thinking stuff straightforward. Another hard part is to connect both texts together because I have to use both texts. But the easiest part is to connect the character in the book with my own life experience.

            My second assignment is writing a critical lens essay on “Superman and Me?” by Sherman Alexie and “ Custer died for your sins” by Deloria. This two-book are very connected to me too because it talks about being discriminated by the other. In my life, people are making fun of me that I can’t speak well English. In both books, the character is been discriminate by saying they should be stupid and they are animal just because they are Indian America.

             The hardest part of writing this assignment is I have a hard time using the book “Custer died for your sins ”to lens the book “Superman and Me”.Another hard part is to find a thesis statement and to find evidence to prove it because it will be better if the thesis statement and evidence are strong. The easiest part stays the same is the part I connected with my own experience.

             The last assignment I work on is my research paper was the hardest assignment in this class because I have to watch a movie and get an idea in the movie by myself. The movie I’m working on is Black Panther this movie is very interesting. At first, I think this movie is only talking about racism but in the end, I have realized that this movie shows a lot of gender inequality idea. This movie shows me a lot about what is happening in the world. It shows me that women can be actually very powerful and strong. My own life connected with this movie by a lot of my friend are been treated differently in their life just because they are girls, not boys. This movie will be a very good example to show many girls that they can actually do a lot of stuff, don’t care about what others think.

         The easiest part of this assignment is watching the movie because the movie is very enjoyable I love it so much. At first, I don’t want to watch this movie because in my daily life I always watch Chinese drama but at the end, I enjoy it a lot and at the end, I learn something.
